The Fortune Society is a large (350+ employees) old (50 years) organization that advocates for criminal justice reform and that helps formerly incarcerated individuals re-adjust to life outside of the criminal justice system. They provide health services (substance abuse, HIV, and mental health services), housing, education and employment services, etc. Headquartered in Long Island City, They have large housing complexes in Harlem, and have a presence on Rikers Island as well as in the courthouses in all 5 boroughs. They also have court advocates that help to facilitate alternatives to incarceration for their clients.
Simon Horwith, a new member, is coordinating our activity.
